2015 Pommard Clone Pinot Noir

The 2015 growing season in Carneros was perfect for our precious Pinot. Rains in the Spring followed by a warm and dry summer and Fall led to smaller clusters with stingy fruit set. Just what you like for high quality and this fickle grape.

We harvested block 19- Pommard clone in the middle of the night on September 6. The Brix was 24.2 with nice acidity to balance. We de-stemmed the clusters and then dumped the whole berries into a small open topped tanks. After a 5 day cold soak, the yeasts began chomping away at the sugars- beautiful wild fermentation once again! Manual punching down (or stomping) occurred 2 to 3 times a day for about 2 weeks until the wine went dry. It was then barreled down into about 40% new French oak and laid to rest until bottling 11 months later.

As usual this wine has similar notes to the Stanly Ranch but a uniquness and backbone that allows it to stand on it's own. Our beloved Pommard clone is showing her feminity this year. Those spicy, jammy notes have shifted into silky strawberry compote with a hint of dried violet. The palate is so soft it is hard not to slurp it all down. Smooth tannins and a delicate acid linger on the tongue.
